Glenn Cal
Singer-Songwriter Glenn Cal is quickly making a name for himself on the Irish music scene. Since the recording of his debut EP 'Brand New Day' Glenn has been gigging extensively, playing at festivals such as Electric Picnic, Temple House and Sligo Live Sessions. Although currently living in Sligo, Glenn was born and raised on the north side of Cork City.
Glenn claims that the biggest influence on his musical career has been his dad Dave Cal a well known singer on the Cork music scene. A strong desire to perform had Glenn busking on the streets of Cork from the early age of 15 and then going on to play the local venues and haunts of Cork City. Last summer Glenn shared the stage with pop sensations Westlife at Lissadell House, Sligo and the Marquee, Cork.
Following its success, he was recently delighted to have been handpicked by Westlife to join them on their Gravity Tour as an official support act which started in the UK this March. A dream come true for Glenn to share his music and talent at such Arena's like Wembley and the 02 in London to name but a few, with the highlight of the tour for Glenn was in April when he played to a sold out Dublin 02 Arena for 5 nights and 2 nights in the Odyssey Arena Belfast.
He is also supporting Declan O Rourke on his current tour around Ireland. Because Glenn's music has a real 'feel good' factor, it is making a strong impression on all who hear him perform live. He has the passion to convey what is in his heart and to hold the audience until his story has been told.
In his music you will find mixed elements of acoustic folk and soft rock combined to create vibrant original melodies with heartfelt deep lyrics resulting in catchy well written songs. On listening it leaves the listener wanting more. Emma Gallagher, music writer for the Sligo Champion, described his songs as "soulful, searching lyrics, his four track EP with its blend of folk/rock influences will have you hitting the repeat button."
